Traveling alone is an enriching experience and is the inspiration for the SOFIA NETWORK. All those confident, free, brave, empathetic, wise, peaceful, empowered and happy women who venture to travel alone represent the origin of this program.
The program promotes gender equality in the tourism industry, good practices in tourist safety, and encourages the entry and pleasant stay of tourists in the destination. It was born within the framework of an institutional support agreement between the Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT) and the National Institute for Women (INAMU). It is also closely linked to Sustainable Development Goal No. 5, which seeks gender equality to build a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world.
The SOFIA NETWORK is a symbol that represents a network of companies, people and communities committed to generating trust for all tourists who travel through our country, sharing the value of equality to create the best travel experience and a safe stay.
